SDIAM - the Structural Dynamic Integrated Assessment Model

Source code

You need a Fortran77-Compiler, e.g. g77/gcc.

SDIAM is by default set up for UN*X-like operating systems (Makefiles etc.). It has been tested under GNU/Linux of i386-PC and SUN-Solaris on SUN-SPARC platforms. The Fortran model should also run under other OS's, but this requires substantial efforts by the user. If you succeed, please notify me. Thanks!

In any case you need to install a nonlinear optimization routine which is able to determine a global minimum from the cost function and its gradient in 363 dimensions. SDIAM comes with a ready-to-use interface to the L-BFGS-B 2.1 software by Zhu et al., which I recommend. If you decide to use your own optimization tool, you need to write your own interface.

In case you want to improve the model further and edit the source code, you generally need an updated adjoint model, which computes the gradient of the cost (or, rather, welfare) function. This can be most easily derived by sending the (changed) model source code to Giering & Kaminski's Tangent and Adjoint Model Compiler (TAMC) via installing an utility to be found at the TAMC home page. As long as you do not change the SDIAM source code you need not install this utiliy!

If you decide to use the TAMC, the sendmail program should be running on your UN*X machine.
