SDIAM - the Structural Dynamic Integrated Assessment ModelSource codePrerequisites You need a Fortran77-Compiler, e.g. g77/gcc. SDIAM is by default set up for UN*X-like operating systems (Makefiles etc.). It has been tested under GNU/Linux of i386-PC and SUN-Solaris on SUN-SPARC platforms. The Fortran model should also run under other OS's, but this requires substantial efforts by the user. If you succeed, please notify me. Thanks! In any case you need to install a nonlinear optimization routine which is able to determine a global minimum from the cost function and its gradient in 363 dimensions. SDIAM comes with a ready-to-use interface to the L-BFGS-B 2.1 software by Zhu et al., which I recommend. If you decide to use your own optimization tool, you need to write your own interface. In case you want to improve the model further and edit the source code, you generally need an updated adjoint model, which computes the gradient of the cost (or, rather, welfare) function. This can be most easily derived by sending the (changed) model source code to Giering & Kaminski's Tangent and Adjoint Model Compiler (TAMC) via installing an utility to be found at the TAMC home page. As long as you do not change the SDIAM source code you need not install this utiliy! If you decide to use the TAMC, the sendmail program should be running on your UN*X machine. DocumentationSDIAM is documented in detail in: Barth, V., 2003, Integrated Assessment of Climate Change Using Structural Dynamic Models, PhD thesis, University of Hamburg See the README files after downloading and installing the SDIAM software for more specific information on the numerical model and the data obtained. DisclaimerSDIAM is a scientific community model. Its use, modification and development for academic, educational and non-commercial purposes is free. Note that this software comes on an "as is" basis and without any warranty or liability, neither for its completeness, correctness, or fitness for a particular purpose, nor for any results or possibe damages caused by the use of the software. DownloadThe recent SDIAM version is 0.1, which has also been used for the calculations in the PhD thesis. Download sdiam0.1.tar.gz (gzip'ed tar-archive, 155kB). InstallationSave the tar archive in any directory you like. 'cd' to that dirctory and issue the following at the UN*X prompt ('xxx' is the SDIAM version number, replace it with the value in the name of your downloaded archive):
gunzip sdiamxxx.tar.gz The follow the instructions in the files
